Secretory carrier membrane proteins (SCAMPs) are a family of conserved integral membrane proteins localized to membranes of the cell-surface recycling system, including secretory organelles and endosomes. SCAMP1, SCAMP2, SCAMP3, and SCAMP4 are ubiquitously expressed, whereas SCAMP5 exhibits primarily neural expression. SCAMP4 protein is enriched on the surface of senescent cells, and its expression regulates the secretion of SASP (senescence-associated secretory phenotype) factors, including interleukin 6 (IL6), IL7, IL8, growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15), and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 1 (CXCL1). |
