Innovative Therapeutics for Enhancing Healthspan

As global life expectancy increases, there is a pressing need for effective interventions that enhance healthspan. CD BioSciences is developing anti-aging drugs, including CB-LCA-001 and CB-T-001, to alleviate aging and improve healthspan.

Aging Overview

Aging is a complex process characterized by functional and structural deterioration across various biological systems, leading to increased susceptibility to aging-related diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer. By 2050, the number of individuals aged 65 and older will be estimated to surpass 1.5 billion, representing over 16% of the global population. This demographic shift presents significant challenges as the increasingly aging populace.

Current Status of Anti-Aging Drugs

Anti-aging drugs hold the potential to significantly impact public health by delaying the onset of aging-related diseases and enhancing the quality of life of older adults. The global anti-aging market is projected to reach approximately $421 billion by 2030, up from $250 billion in 2020, indicating a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 7%. This growth reflects increasing investment in the research and development of anti-aging therapeutics.

Developing anti-aging drugs is advancing rapidly, with various therapeutics currently being explored, such as senolytics, calorie restriction mimetics (CRMs), antioxidants, telomerase activators, and epigenetic drugs. Research has identified several key biological pathways involved in aging, such as the mTOR pathway, sirtuins, and AMPK. Targeting these pathways has shown potential in preclinical studies, leading to increased longevity in model organisms. While there are currently no FDA-approved drugs for anti-aging use, existing drugs such as metformin are being repurposed and studied for their anti-aging effects.
