Background
Cyclin-dependent kinase 2-associated protein 1 (CDK2AP1) was first identified as a tumor suppressor in oral cancer and is a member of the nucleosome remodeling and histone deacetylase (NuRD) complex Also known as p12 or DOC-1, CDK2AP1 binds to unphosphorylated CDK2 and DNA polymerase alpha/primase to negatively regulate their activities CDK2AP1 also plays a role in the silencing of Oct-4 during stem cell differentiation Low CDK2AP1 expression in oral cancers is associated with poor prognosis Lower expression has also shown to be resistant to cisplatin treatment In addition to oral cancers, CDK2AP1 plays a role in other tumor types, including colorectal, testicular, and ovarian cancers.
